1997年，Radiohead发表了惊为天人的五星经典《OK Computer》。同年，他们的三个英国同胞在德文郡的特恩毛斯正式组成了MUSE。在Radiohead风格突变之后，这个与希腊文艺女神同名的乐队，从Brit-Pop中开辟了另一种复古、但又不失新锐的独有曲风。1999年，首张录音室专辑《Showbiz》在毫无压力的情况下面世，一举征服了大英帝国和大洋彼岸挑剔的美利坚共和国。

《unintended》便来自这张处女作，是一首颇见主唱Bellamy演唱功力的慢歌。有人认为Bellamy的歌喉与Thom Yorke相似，其实不然。Thom Yorke的神经质和Bellamy的婉转花腔均为各自一绝，岂能草草定其优劣？《unintended》的曲调及歌词，与专辑封面凌空高蹈的神秘女子意象相契，虚幻而又令人沉迷。“其形也，翩若惊鸿，婉若游龙。荣曜秋菊，华茂春松。仿佛兮若轻云之蔽月，飘飘兮若流风之回雪。”Bellamy若能读到曹植的《洛神赋》，一定会将子建老兄引为知己。歌曲中的迷恋、怅惘以及矢志不移的追求，在Bellamy一唱三叹的回旋低声吟喃中尽显无遗，一种永世的牵绊缠绕着一颗无限向往的心，在结尾的“before you……”中无奈地渐隐渐逝，如梦幻泡影握之不住。

《unintended》并非MUSE的代表作（他们的第四张专辑《Absolution》无疑才是其风格的集大成者，也是我个人的最爱），但这首忧伤的歌曲，却值得反复聆听。因为，在这其中，你能找到属于自己的“Unintended Choice（无心之选）”。
