“他梦见一个梯子立在地上，梯子的头顶着天，有神的使者在梯子上，上去下来。耶和华站在梯子以上……”（《旧约.创世纪》第28章10－19节）这个做梦的人叫雅各（Jacob），以色列民族的先祖，亚伯拉罕的孙子，以撒的儿子。当时，他正被哥哥所追杀，在逃亡的路上以石当枕沉沉睡去，耶和华在梦中对他显现，应许把他所躺卧之地赐给他和他的後裔。从那以后，“雅各的天梯”喻指通向神圣和幸福的途径。

当这架神光充盈、通往天国的梯子被记载于重金属摇滚乐史册的时候，已经是公元1971年的事了。这一年，齐柏林飞艇（Led Zeppelin）发表了他们的巅峰之作《Led Zeppelin IV》，才华横溢的Jimmy Page和Robert Plant共同完成了这首Stairway to heaven。当是时也，在东方的一个泱泱大国中，数以亿计的狂热人群也搭起了一架红色天梯，可通往的却不是神圣和幸福，而是残忍、荒诞的魔幻现实。

这首重金属名曲有一个民谣般甜美而悦耳的开头。吉他和弦轻轻撩拨之中，笛声悠扬由远而近。Plant竟然像一个行吟歌手一样，唱起了一个格林童话般的故事：从前，有一位姑娘，她相信所有会闪亮的都是金子，她想买一架去天堂的梯子……Page的吉他丝丝线线、若有若无伴随左右，一切都是那么地浑然天成。“呜~~，这让我迷惑，让我迷惑”的吟唱更添了几分忧愁，因为风笛手在森林里召唤，而我的灵魂正在为一些失去的东西而哭泣。

歌曲行进到三分之二处，一段长达一分钟的吉他solo之后曲风骤变，Plant穿金裂帛的声音焦灼地嘶喊起来，仿佛由一位思索的旁观者变成了深陷其中的亲历者，内心的挣扎期待最后的解脱，盼望总有一丝亮光让我们看到那通往天国的阶梯。然而，结果如何？没人会有答案。正如Page自己的评说：“《Stairway to Heaven》奇妙之处在于，每个人对它都有自己的解释，而这实际上关乎着他们对人生的看法。这就是它所以伟大的地方。在过去的岁月里人们带着各种关于这首歌对于他们人生某阶段意味着什么的故事来到我身旁。关于它是怎么样引导他们走出悲惨境况……”

在诸神隐匿的现代，有人在迷惑与彷徨中苦苦追寻，有人却干脆另造神祇顶礼膜拜。于是，我们从自己的生活周围总能发现一些稀奇古怪的事情，可恶而又好笑。我想，问题是不是在于，每个人都在期待或建造着神登上的那座梯子，但神指引的却恰恰不是人们想走的那条路？Ooh, it makes me wonder。Ooh, it makes me wonder。
